SPECIAL SERVICES COORDINATOR - PARKS AND RECREATION INTERNATIONAL PARK DIVISION

Supports the planning, coordination, and execution of a diverse range of recreational programs and special events for the Clayton County Parks and Recreation department. This role involves managing staff, volunteers, and resources to ensure high-quality service and meaningful engagement for all park constituents. Responsibilities include addressing inquiries related to park and facility use, promoting recreational services, and supporting constituent relations for a positive experience across Clayton County’s facilities.

Essential Functions

Constituent Relations and Communications: Serves as the primary contact for constituent inquiries related to specific services and facilities, providing timely responses and maintaining electronic records of all interactions for reporting purposes. Establishes rapport with community members to foster positive relations.

Program and Event Management: Assists in the planning and oversight of recreational programs, activities, and events suitable for all age groups, interest levels, and community demographics. Coordinates logistics for both regular events and special functions, ensuring appropriate materials, supplies, and personnel are available. Collaborates with the Director’s office on event approval and execution.
 
Staff and Volunteer Supervision:

Recruits, trains, and manages part-time staff, volunteers, and instructors. Provides guidance, direction, and performance evaluations. Plans and implements volunteer recognition programs to encourage ongoing engagement and appreciation.

Safety and Facility Coordination:

Inspects facilities and equipment for safety compliance and readiness before events. Ensures adherence to all health and safety standards, particularly in aquatic or outdoor environments. Addresses constituent complaints and manages incidents to maintain a safe, welcoming environment.

Administrative and Financial Management:

Assists in budget preparation for specific programs and events. Manages the collection and accounting of fees and charges related to facility rentals and programs. Prepares special reports, program analyses, and promotional materials. 

Additional Functions

Assists in other department programs and activities as required.
Performs other related duties as required

Minimum Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in Recreation Administration preferred; supplemented by one (1) year of previous experience and/or training that includes recreational and aquatic programming; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience which provides the requisite knowledge, skills, and abilities for this job. Must possess and maintain a valid Georgia driver’s license.

Physical Ability: Tasks require the ability to exert very moderate physical effort in light work, typically involving some combination of stooping, kneeling, crouching and crawling, and which may involve lifting, carrying, pushing and/or pulling of objects and materials of moderate weight (12-20 pounds).

Sensory Requirements: Some tasks require the ability to perceive and discriminate sounds, texture, and visual cues or signals. Some tasks require the ability to communicate orally.

Environmental Factors: Performance of essential functions may require exposure to adverse environmental conditions, such as dirt, dust, pollen, odors, humidity, temperature extremes, traffic hazards, or toxic or pathogenic substances.
