Statement of Function

 

This is a responsible administrative and professional position that works under limited supervision.  An employee in a position allocated to this class will plan, coordinate, conduct, evaluate, and supervise recreational and seasonal programs to include youth and adult sports leagues, special events, concessions, summer day camp and aquatics.  Coordinates, supervises, and evaluates part time and seasonal staff as well as volunteer coaches and officials.  Performs routine office duties as required.

Organize Recreation Programs, Youth & Adult Athletics, Summer Day Camp, Special Events, Concessions, Aquatics


Review and Development of Program policies and procedures


New Program development


Assist with Budget development


Purchasing for recreation programs


Responsible for planning, implementing, and evaluating all recreation programs, youth and adult sports leagues, summer day camp, concessions, aquatics, and special events.


Recruit, hire, train, supervise, schedule, and evaluate game officials, volunteers, coaches, and other part time seasonal staff.


Supervises on site, all recreation programs sponsored by the Suwannee Parks and Recreation department.


Responds to telephone inquiries, complaints, etc., regarding recreation programs.


Maintains inventory of supplies and equipment; requisition as needed.


Coordinates with the Parks & Facilities Supervisor, Staff Assistant, Concession Manager, Day Camp Coordinator, Pool Manager, and other seasonal and volunteer staff as necessary to conduct recreation programs. 


Responsible for developing social media presence, brochures, and other necessary marketing materials for recreation programs.


Assists with various records and reports, surveys, evaluations, contracts, correspondence, PSA’s, etc.


Consequence of Error


Probable errors may delay athletic programs administered by the recreation department.

 

Autonomy


Works under the general direction of the Parks & Recreation Manager following established practices and policies in the performance of most duties.  Makes decisions when general instructions, established methods and clearly defined precedents indicate action to be taken, but refers unusual problems to Parks & Recreation Manager.


Communication Requirements


Interacts with a variety of groups and individuals in the community, such as departmental staff, city, county and school board staff, community groups and service clubs, and the public; consultation on problems requires judgment and tact in presentation to obtain cooperation or approval of action to be taken.


Physical Demands


Frequent standing, walking, bending, and stooping.  Working with average or heavy weight materials and supplies.


Environmental Conditions

 

Frequent outdoor exposure.  Frequently in an environment with exposure to factors such as temperature variations.


Supervision


Works under the supervision of the Parks and Recreation Manager.  Responsible for supervising and evaluating game officials, volunteers, coaches, and other part time and seasonal staff.


Equipment Used


Computer and word processing, phone, general office, and athletic equipment.


Minimum Qualifications


Requires a bachelor’s degree in Recreation or a related field.  A minimum of three years’ experience in the recreation field or an equivalent combination of training and experience may be substituted.  Requires general knowledge and the ability to operate computers and software applications.  Must possess a valid Florida driver’s license.  Must obtain and maintain Certified Youth Sports Administration (CYSA) certification within one year of hire.  Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) certification preferred.
